365 days from July 1, 2027 is June 30, 2028, not July 1, because 2028 is a leap year and February 29 sits inside that span.
How Years, Months and Days Are Counted
The start day is not counted
From today to tomorrow is 1 day. If you want to count both the first and the last day, as for a hotel stay or a leave request, add 1: March 1 to March 5 is 4 days apart but covers 5 calendar days.
Month ends are clamped
One month after January 31 is the last day of February, because February has no 31st. So from January 31, 2027 to March 1, 2027 is 1 month 1 day (29 days), and in the leap year 2028 the same dates are also 1 month 1 day but 30 days.
Leap years
A year is a leap year if it divides by 4, except century years, which must divide by 400. 2028 is a leap year, 2100 will not be, and 2000 was.
Daylight saving time
The day count uses calendar dates, so the 23-hour day in March and the 25-hour day in November each count as one day, and the hours shown match your wall clock. The total hours, minutes and seconds rows are real elapsed time, which is why they can differ by one hour from days × 24 across a clock change.

Method and sources. Remaining time = target date and time minus the current time on your device. The breakdown counts whole months (clamping to the last day of shorter months), then whole calendar days, then the remaining hours, minutes and seconds. Leap years follow the Gregorian rule. Daylight saving follows the US rule of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (second Sunday in March to first Sunday in November). Every date in the tables above was computed with the same calendar method.

The exact number of days until Christmas depends on today's date: the calculator shows the precise hours, minutes, and seconds. Interestingly, December 25 was not universally accepted as the date of Christmas until the 4th century AD. Orthodox churches that still follow the Julian calendar, such as the Russian and Serbian churches, celebrate on January 7; most others, including the Greek and Romanian churches, keep December 25. Some countries celebrate primarily on December 24 (Christmas Eve), including Germany, Scandinavia, and parts of Eastern Europe.

The two are related but serve different purposes: a timer counts down a duration, while a time-until calculator shows the gap between now and a fixed future point. Yes. If you enter a date in the past, the calculator shows "time since" that event rather than "time until." This is useful for calculating how long ago something happened: how long since a historical event, how long a project has been running, or how long since a product was launched. The result is displayed with the same breakdown: years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds elapsed since the past date.
Years and months are calculated as complete calendar units, not just divided from total days. The method: first subtract the years (complete 12-month periods), then subtract remaining complete months, then count remaining days, hours, minutes, seconds. This matches how humans naturally think about time: "1 year 3 months 15 days" is more intuitive than "482 days." The total days, hours, and seconds are also shown as simple totals for reference.
Academically, physicists calculate timescales billions of years into the future: the Sun's expected main sequence lifespan ends in about 5 billion years; the last red dwarf stars will burn out in roughly 100 trillion years; the "heat death" of the universe is estimated at 10^100 years away. In practical public countdowns, NASA mission clocks count years to planetary alignments and spacecraft arrivals decades away. The most universally counted-down moment is New Year's Eve midnight, celebrated in every time zone sequentially starting with Pacific island nations. The Olympic Games are counted down to precisely: the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics have their own official countdown. Major sporting finals (Super Bowl, FIFA World Cup Final, Wimbledon) draw hundreds of millions tracking time until kickoff. Space launches are the source of the modern countdown tradition: the launch countdown is usually credited to German filmmaker Fritz Lang, who used it in a 1929 film "Frau im Mond" and was later adopted by actual rocket engineers because it built public anticipation perfectly.
Countdown differences between sites come from several sources: (1) Timezone handling, if the target event is midnight in a specific timezone and the site uses UTC internally, the result differs. (2) Rounding: some sites round to the nearest day, week, or hour; this calculator shows exact seconds. (3) When months are counted: incomplete months are sometimes counted as full months or zero. (4) Server vs client time: server-side countdowns may lag by server update frequency. This calculator uses your device's local clock and calculates continuously in real time, updating every second.

The countdown also shows the hours left today, which is why it can read 94 days and 9 hours on the afternoon when a date is 95 calendar days away. If you need to count both today and the target day, add 1 to the day total.
Divide the number of days by 7. The whole number is the weeks and the remainder is the extra days. 102 days is 14 weeks and 4 days (14 × 7 = 98, with 4 left over). From September 21, 2026, New Year's Day 2027 is 102 days away, so 14 weeks and 4 days.
