How the Spin Wheel Works
Each segment of the wheel represents one name from your list. The wheel uses equal-sized segments regardless of how many names you have, so every participant has an identical probability of winning on each spin — it is not weighted or biased in any way.
The spin duration and deceleration follow a physics-based easing curve that mimics a real spinning wheel. The final position is determined by a random number generator before the animation starts — the spinning is purely visual.
Fair Selection
Every name has an equal 1/N probability each spin. Removing winners (without replacement) ensures no repeat picks across a session.
Use Cases
Classroom participation, prize draws, team captains, restaurant choosers, chore assignment, and any group decision that needs a fair random pick.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the wheel truly fair?+
Yes. The winner is chosen by a random number generator before the wheel starts spinning. Every name has exactly 1/N probability where N is the current number of names. The animation is purely visual — it does not affect the outcome.
Can I add more than 10 names?+
Yes, up to 100 names. The wheel automatically adjusts segment sizes. With many names, text on each segment becomes smaller. The full name is always shown in the winner banner.
What does "Remove winner" do?+
When enabled, the winning name is removed from the list after each spin. This is useful for prize draws where each person can only win once, or for going through all names in random order without repeats.
Can I reset the list after removing winners?+
Yes. The Reset Names button restores all original names. Your spin history is preserved separately so you can still see who was picked.
How many spins can I do?+
As many as you like within a session. The spin history panel records each result. When all names are removed (remove-winner mode), click Reset to start again.
Can I use this for classroom random calls?+
Absolutely. Enter all student names, spin to call on a student, optionally remove them so the same student is not called twice. At the end of class, reset for the next session.
Is the name picker confidential?+
All data stays in your browser — names are never sent to our servers. Close the page and everything is gone. No account, no tracking of your names.
Why do teachers use random pickers?+
Research in education shows that random cold-calling increases student engagement and preparation compared to voluntary hand-raising. It also prevents unconscious bias where teachers tend to call on the same students repeatedly.
Can I use this as a random decision maker?+
Yes. Enter your options instead of names and spin to make a decision. Great for choosing what to eat, what movie to watch, or any choice between equally valid options.
What is the maximum number of names?+
The current limit is 100 names. With more than about 40 names, the wheel segments become very thin but the tool remains functional.
