How Rich Are You Compared to the World?
Most people significantly underestimate how wealthy they are in global terms. The global median income is approximately $2,920 per year, or about $8 per day. This means half the world's 8 billion people live on less than $8 a day. By this measure, even a modest income in a developed country places you in the upper half of global earners, and a middle-class income in the US or Western Europe places you in the top 5-10% globally.
This calculator uses World Bank income distribution data to estimate your global percentile. Because cost of living varies enormously between countries, the comparison uses purchasing power parity (PPP) adjustments to make incomes comparable across different economies.

PPP adjustments help, but local housing costs, healthcare, and education expenses mean global percentile is only one measure of financial wellbeing.
